How Payments Work

How escrow, monthly charges, seller payouts, platform fees, and refunds work on Weelinx.

Weelinx uses Stripe for all payments. Here's how each step works.

For buyers

Subscribing to a placement

When you subscribe, you're authorising a monthly Stripe subscription.

  1. First charge is made at checkout but held in escrow — the seller doesn't receive it yet
  2. Seller publishes within 7 days
  3. Verification runs (standard 48 hours, Express within 24 hours)
  4. On verified-live: first payment releases to seller, monthly subscription clock starts
  5. On verification failure: subscription paused, no charge, seller has 7 days to fix

Monthly billing

You're billed on the same day each month from the original verification date. Each monthly charge is contingent on the placement passing verification.

Platform fee

A 15% platform fee is added to the seller's monthly price. If a seller charges £50/month:

  • Seller receives: £50
  • Platform fee: £7.50
  • Your charge: £57.50

Loyalty discount: The fee drops to 12% after 6 months of continuous placement, and 10% after 12 months. This is applied automatically.

Pausing and cancelling

  • You can cancel any placement any time from your dashboard. No questions asked.
  • On cancellation: no further charges, placement enters 30-day wind-down (seller can remove content during this period), all open obligations settle.
  • Automatic pause happens if verification fails — no action needed from you.

Refunds

If a placement is cancelled within the first 7 days due to verification failure, your first month's payment is refunded in full. Beyond that, Weelinx doesn't issue pro-rata refunds for mid-month cancellations, because the seller has already provided the service for that month.

For sellers

Receiving placement requests

When a buyer subscribes, payment is held in escrow. You publish within 7 days and mark the placement as live. We verify within 48 hours. Once verified, your first payment releases.

Monthly payouts

  • Payouts are consolidated monthly
  • Payout happens on the 1st of each month for all verified-live placements from the previous month
  • Minimum payout threshold: £10 (rolls over to next month if below)
  • Paid directly to your Stripe Connect bank account

Platform fee (seller view)

You receive your full listing price. The 15% fee is added to the buyer's charge, not deducted from your payout. If you list at £50/month, you receive £50/month (when paid) regardless of the fee the buyer pays on top.

Payout schedule

Stripe typically takes 1-3 business days to transfer funds after payout is initiated. Your bank's processing time adds 0-2 days on top.

Paused placements

If one of your placements is paused due to verification failure:

  • No payout for that placement for paused periods
  • You have 7 days to fix the issue
  • If fixed within 7 days, placement resumes and next month's payout includes it
  • If not fixed: placement cancelled, future income stops

Tax

You're responsible for your own tax obligations. Weelinx provides monthly earnings statements you can use for bookkeeping. For UK sellers, this counts as self-employed income (or business income, depending on your structure).

For both sides

Stripe Connect

Sellers onboard via Stripe Connect Express. This includes KYC verification (ID check, bank details, business details). Stripe requires this — Weelinx has no discretion on the requirements.

Allow 10-15 minutes for onboarding. You'll need:

  • Government-issued ID (passport or driver's license)
  • Business or personal bank account details
  • Proof of address (if requested)

Currency

Currently GBP only. USD and EUR support is on the v2 roadmap.

Disputes over payment

If you believe there's a billing error, contact support@weelinx.com. For genuine Stripe chargebacks, standard Stripe dispute processes apply.
